Voicing Borders

Voicing Borders is an artistic research project that combines maps as social and visual codes, Soune notation, singing and artistic research.

Since the beginning of politics, the human voice has been used to agree, challenge, praise, adore and demonise the borders we have created between countries and people in those countries. Sometimes, we fight on the borders with guns or emphasise them with wire, but the actual, political, historical and social border is one that we talk, scream, whine and sing about.

In Voicing Border, I collect maps and sing them: Real and invented maps, personal and political maps, expensive and cheap maps. I deconstruct them and use their borders as inspiration for composition, written in Soune notation. Then I sing them through.
